Restoration of Thorens TD 184
The TD 184 was introduced in 1958 and became an overnight sales hit. Key to its success were the unique design of its 'telephone dial' format selector (7", 10" and 12") and the table's ease of operation, with automatic end-of-side shutoff.
The drive sytem was imported directly from the TD 124: E 50 motor, stepped pulley and combination rim and belt drive. The platter however was smaller (25cm/10" in diameter), the aluminium BL 104 tonearm was integrally built into the chassis and the chassis itself was made from sheet metal while the more expensive models use a massive cast chassis.
Our service includes a complete motor and chassis restoration and the installation of a Swissonor shieled power cable and 1.2 meter Swissonor dedicated tonearm cable with Neutrik plugs. Restoring a TD 184 requires as much time as for the TD 124! -
Price: CHF 1'250.--
When buying a TD 184 please be certain that no parts are missing, especially the original headshell. Replacement parts are not available, and reproducing missing parts is expensive and time-consuming.
Spareparts like drivebelt or mushrooms are equal to the ones of the TD 124 and can be ordered from us.
