The TD 124 "drive platter", also known as the "main platter" or "sub-platter", is an essential element in the Thorens design concept. Thorens chose cast iron for the TD 124 series due to its outstanding properties: high density and damping capacity, great rigidity and extraordinary dimensional stability. These structural advantages, so important to the Thorens sound, involved one major disadvantage: the platter is magnetic.
A warped or deformed top platter can dampen the performance of even a perfectly functioning TD 124. Unfortunately it is no longer possible to meet the demand for a replacement top platter by replicating the technology employed by Thorens at the time of manufacture - the machine tools and technique no longer exist.
After years of experimentation using skilled machinists and considerable investment, we are pleased to announce that we have now succeeded in producing a top platter for the TD 124 which meets our demanding requirements.
Rubber Mat for Thorens Turntables
Das Design is from the Thorens TD 124 MK II version
Fits also the following Thorens models:
TD 124 MK I, late TD 224, TD 135 MK II, TD 125 MK I,
TD 160 MK I, TD 150 MK I & MK II
These rubber supports decouple the alumium top platter from the main platter while ensuring instant startup through frictionless contact with the rotating main platter when the start/stop lever is engaged.
